POSITION SCOPE:

Provide timely and professional Human Resources support to division(s), ensuring applicable legislation is adhered to. Assist in the development and maintenance of Human Resources programs, policies and procedures in accordance with SMIP objectives and legislation

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

  • Assist in the creation and review of policies and processes, ensuring adherence to employment laws        

  • Assist in the development and implementation of new programs, policies and procedures as required    

  • Ensure managers are aware of legislative requirements and act accordingly

  • Actively identify and participate in continuous improvement initiatives

  • Prepare materials and conduct various training programs to all employees and various levels within the organization as required, including AODA

  • Working with the Manager of Human Resources, assist with the administration of progressive discipline in a fair and consistent manner, and attend employee discipline meetings as required to ensure discipline is conducted in accordance with legislative and procedural guidelines

  • Provide support to the Health & Safety program including but not limited to the coordination of activities for the Joint Health & Safety Committee and update safety policies

  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned by the Manager of Human Resources or designate

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Undergraduate degree in related field or HR certificate or equivalent experience

  • HR Professional designation (asset), Strong knowledge of employment law

  • Minimum 3 years HR experience, providing advice/guidance to Management on development and revision of HR policies, federal laws, issues, etc.
